This session will focus on how to build a strong personal and professional portfolio, including identifying transferable skills, relevant experiences, and accomplishments. Students will also receive guidance on writing effective CVs, résumés, and cover letters tailored to academic, Co-op, volunteer, and employment opportunities.

Career Planning Essentials: Building Your Professional Profile

The FTR Workshop offers FIC students a valuable opportunity to understand the importance and benefits of early career planning.

By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the value of early and intentional career planning 
  2. Identify personal strengths, skills, and experiences that contribute to a strong professional profile 
  3. Describe key components of an effective CV, résumé, and cover letter 
  4. Apply strategies for tailoring application documents to different opportunities (e.g., Co-op, part-time work, volunteer roles) 
  5. Recognize the role of extracurricular, volunteer, and academic experiences in building a competitive portfolio 
  6. Identify SFU Career and Volunteer Services resources available to support ongoing career development
