Future Ready Workshop Series
Developing Healthy Lifelong Habits for Academic and Career Success
This FTR session will introduce the science of habit formation, including how habits are created, maintained, and changed over time. Students will learn how stress, motivation, environment, and routine influence habit development, as well as how unhealthy patterns can impact mental health and academic performance.
By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:
- Understand the concept of habit formation and the factors that influence how habits are developed and maintained
- Identify personal habits that support or interfere with academic performance and well-being
- Describe the relationship between habits, stress, mental health, and overall functioning
- Apply practical strategies for building healthy habits and reducing unhelpful patterns
- Develop realistic and sustainable habit goals aligned with personal and academic needs
- Recognize the importance of self-compassion and flexibility when creating behavior change
- Identify SFU Health & Counselling Services and other campus resources that support habit formation and mental well-being
Join to learn practical, evidence-informed strategies for building and sustaining healthy habits, such as goal setting, habit stacking, self-compassion, and responding effectively to setbacks. Emphasis will be placed on creating realistic, sustainable routines that support well-being during university and beyond.
This workshop will be taking place on Thursday, March 26th at 12:30-1:30PM in Room 2030 at FIC.
