Hosted by Student Services, this special Community Kitchen invites you to explore rich traditions, powerful stories and delicious dishes that honour Black culture and culinary heritage. Taste, learn and connect - one bite at a time!

Black History Month 2026

Community Kitchen: A Celebration of Black Cuisine and Culture is a welcoming, interactive event hosted by Student Services that brings people together through food, storytelling and shared experience. Rooted in African and Caribbean traditions, this gathering highlights the cultural significance, history and creativity behind beloved dishes that have been passed down through generations.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore diverse flavours, learn about the origins and traditions of Black cuisine, and connect with others in a warm, community-centered space. More than a meal, Community Kitchen is a celebration of culture, heritage and the powerful role food plays in building understanding and belonging.

Hosted at the Black Student Centre in Maggie Benston Centre, this event will be occurring on February 12th from 5:00 – 8:00PM
