Whale's Graduation Speech:

“Honorable guests, Instructors/Professors, staff of Fraser International College, fellow schoolmates, ladies and gentlemen, Good Evening! Thank you for coming to our graduation ceremony/dinner, your genuine support tonight and over the past year is greatly appreciated. It is my honor to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the instructors /professors and staff members in FIC on behalf of my fellow-schoolmates. As we all aim at transferring to Simon Fraser University, you have been an indispensable source of console and support to each and every one of us. FIC is renowned for its experienced and caring instructors and lectures in small classes; therefore enabled us to unleash our full potential. Other than that, FIC offers a unique learning environment for students from different places to come together and experience multi-culturalism. This year, we have successfully transferred to Simon Fraser University. Thanks to the hard work of all the instructors/professors and staff in FIC, we are now prepared to overcome the hurdles we shall come upon, including handling with challenging coursework and adapting to a new school-life. We are really glad to have spent a year in FIC, providing us with memorable experiences and the courage to move on to another stage in life.

Once again, I would like to thank you all for your great effort in preparing us to become competent university students. May I also give my wholehearted blessings to my fellow schoolmates, wishing you all the best and a great successful future to come! Thank you!”

I highly appreciate the equal educational system as well as the high standard of living in Canada. These are two main reasons why I chose to be here.  I found out about FIC when I attended the “Education in Canada” Exhibiton in Vietnam. It really brought me a lot of information.

FIC offers a wonderful opportunity for international students who want to study the university first-year program but still have some problems about the new language, environment…when entering the university. I’m studying in UTPII and I think ít’s a good choice. The number of students  in a class is reduced at most so that the teachers can pay more attention to their students. Moreover, the English used in the class is absolutely suitable for me who have just started studying in English for the first time. About the teachers, they’re very friendly and especially very attentive to the student’s needs. They would try their best to make sure that their students can understand the lecture thoroughly. In short, I don’t have any complaints about the teachers. I’m totally satisfied.

I’m sure I would. I highly recommend FIC to any international students who really want to have a smooth transtition to the second year in SFU. Everything that you think can cause problems to you (such as: English, new university environment and even culture shock…)will be solved at FIC.

It was a hard experience for me because it’s the first time I live on my own in a new country. Everything seems to change in a wink.My experience is that you should bring some foods from home .It does help in case you are not used to the foods here for the first days..Besides,
make sure that you remember the address of the place where you are living and the bus routes in case you may get lost.Hope everything would be ok for you all!

While visiting a friend that attends SFU in Vancouver, I had the opportunity to have an insight into student life in Canada and just loved it. I visited a few lectures for Communications and International Studies at the SFU Burnaby campus when I realized how highly qualified the
professors here are and their courses are not as dry as I had previously experienced at universities in Mexico and Germany. Also, Canada´s lifestyle for me is a balance between the two cultures I grew up in, the Geman and the Mexican. It is easy to adapt, make new friends and have a great experience as a student.

I found out about FIC after applying to SFU as an International Student with my mexican high school grades.

So far, the program I am studying in could not be better. I am in the Arts and Social Sciences faculty and hoping to be able to transfer into SFU as an International Studies student. The quality of the courses is very high, the classes are small which gives you the opportunity to interact
more with your teachers and other students. If you have any questions or doubts, you can ask questions in class or go to student support tutorials that are offered at FIC. Coming from another country, english is not my first language and taking advantage of the support tutorials is great help when you are trying to start university in a different country with a different language and expectations.

If you are really interested in studying university abroad, then make it happen. It is not always easy but it is a very rewarding experience and it will only help you grow in many different ways. SFU is a very good university with a huge diversity of students from all over the world and FIC is here to help you be part of it.

I chose FIC because I was wanted to come to Vancouver to study. As well I wanted to get a degree in Canada because of the mix of cultures coming together.

I like it here. FIC is a good college. The classes are small and the students and teachers all know each other. It is a very friendly environment. All of the teachers know where we need extra help and they give it to you.

The classes are challenging and there is a lot of group work. The study skills classes are useful especially for completing the essays and writing assignments.

Living on campus has allowed me to make lots of friends and participate in many activities.

Each class is small so it is easy to listen to the lecture and it is easy to talk my professors. I don’t hesitate to ask questions because we have time during the lecture.

The staff at FIC are friendly and really helpful, but I am looking forward to transferring to SFU.

I like the fact that I can continue to improve my English while starting my academic studies in Business. I never thought that I would take a philosophy class, but now I have and I am really quite interested in it.

FIC is a very good school. We can develop our learning skills to prepare us for success at SFU. The teachers are really good and they give us lots of time to help us with our studies. We have small classes which give us more chance to interact with our instructors. As well, it gives us the opportunity to go to Simon Fraser University which is a high quality university especially with their Business programs. My major will be Accounting when I enter SFU.

I like meeting international students and learning about different cultures. I have made lots of friends from different countries at FIC. Most importantly we can live on campus and experience campus life. I can use the SFU fitness centre every day.

FIC has helped me a lot. I am really happy studying here.

“I studied in FIC from January 2007 to December 2007. I could still recall how confused I was when I arrived to this school. It’s the first time I leave my country and I wasn’t sure about anything except the fact that I was a pretty bad English speaker. I thought it might not be a good
choice to study aboard.

FIC changed my mind immediately. In a very short time, I found that all of the people who worked for FIC were sincerely nice people. They were  always patient and tried to help you out of the mess. I trusted those people. They provided lots of valuable advises to me. It’s important to know
that someone is going to take your back when there aren’t any relatives around you.

All FIC students are international students. It’s very easy to find someone who comes from the same country as you. Therefore, you never need to worry about being alone. It’s very cool to study with people who come from different countries with different cultural backgrounds. Everybody has their unique way of thinking. You can learn a lot from each other.

Most professors of FIC work also at SFU. There is one thing I can tell you, all of the professors in FIC have rich experience of teaching and they  are very good at it. The class size is around 40 students. It is way smaller than the class size in SFU. Personally, I love smaller class - there is
more communication between professors and students. I remember that I had only 12 classmates when I took critical thinking. It was like a couple of friends getting together after a cup of coffee, and have a nice talk for 3 hours. It was awesome!

Volunteer opportunities are offered by FIC every semester. I worked for the orientation of the fall semester in 2007, and I joined the peer education program in spring 2008. I had a lot of fun. It’s a great chance to improve your communication skill and make friends.

That’s pretty much what I want to say about my student life in FIC. I had a great time there. I appreciate the effort those professors and officers have made for me. That’s probably why I can offer my help to FIC without any hesitation when it needs me. In the end, I hope everybody have
a wonderful study experience in FIC!”

I have had a good experience at FIC. SFU has a really good reputation and FIC is a really good pathway for me to study at this university.

FIC’s Academic English program is really good and the instructor gives us a lot of support. The work is appropriate to improve our English.

I like the classes and the instructors are nice and they provide good support. My most interesting courses is Pre-Calculus and Critical Thinking (Philosophy).

It is great to live on campus and make friends from around the world. The residence is close to the library so it easy to find information and it is a good place for studying. We can use the facilities at SFU and this is really good for us. We often use the gym to play badminton, table tennis and basketball.

The environment is quite nice at SFU with many trees. Generally speaking the weather is quite nice here.
